The table of control chart constants shown below are approximate values used in calculating control limits for the X-bar chart based on rational subgroup size. Subgroups falling outside the control limits should be removed from the calculations to remove their statistical bias.
Using the Table of Control Chart Constants at the back of the textbook, we find that for subgroups of size 3, we enter the values in our spreadsheet. In this example, the constants are entered in cells B12 – B15. We will use rows 11 and 12 of columns F and G to show the control limits.

Some control charts account for unstable variations. You can also use control charts for discrete data. A powerful instance of use for control charts is in the analysis stage.
