Como Zoo was the first zoo established in Minnesota. Founded in 1897, when the then mayor of Saint Paul wanted a place for his deer to live. The zoo is located within Como Park, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Como Zoo is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

Today Como Park Zoo & Conservatory is operated by the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department. The zoo features a seal island, a large cat exhibit, a variety of aquatic life, primates, birds, African hoofed animals and a world class polar bear exhibit.

Inspired by the renowned landscape architect Horace Cleveland in the 1870s, St. Paul sets aside 300 acres of former farmland to create the campus we now know as Como Park Zoo & Conservatory.
The tropical plants overwintered in greenhouses in the park. In 1915, the impressive, glass-domed Conservatory opened, fulfilling Nussbaumer’s long-held dream for Como Park. The Saint Paul City Railway reached the Como neighborhoods in 1892.
