2 mar 2020 · On 2008 December 19, we detected the anti-tail of Comet Lulin at a very low elevation. Two days later, we were finally able to obtain good-quality anti-tail imaging. Figure 3 shows the anti-tail lying in the sunward direction.
An antitail is an apparent spike projecting from a comet's coma which seems to go towards the Sun, and thus geometrically opposite to the other tails: the ion tail and the dust tail. Despite a common misunderstanding, this phenomenon is not an optical illusion .

11 wrz 2024 · For the next couple of days, Comet C/2023 A3 may appear to have three tails: a blue gas tail, and a yellow-white dust tail that appears both ahead of the comet as an anti-tail, and behind the comet as its normal dust tail.
In both views the comet sports an apparent antitail at the left -- the comet's dust tail appearing almost edge on from an earth-based perspective as it trails behind in Lulin's orbit. Extending to the right of the coma, away from the Sun, is the beautiful ion tail.
In this picture, taken from Italy last Friday, are Comet Lulin 's coma and tails, one tail pointing away from the Sun, and an anti-tail -- dust that trails the comet in its orbit and may appear to point toward the Sun.
6 lis 2010 · We developed a novel methodology to analyze grism observations of comets, and applied a Haser comet model to extract production rates of OH, CS, NH, CN, C3, C2, and dust.
