Birth of the New World - Wikipedia. Coordinates: 18.490106°N 66.626741°W. The Birth of the New World (Spanish: Nacimiento del Nuevo Mundo, colloquially known as La Estatua de Colón, lit. Columbus' Statue) is a 360 foot (110 m) bronze sculpture located on the Atlantic coastline of Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
The entire monument cost $18,000, was made of Italian Ravazzoni marble, and stands 22 ft (6.7 m) from the ground, the statue of Columbus being 10 ft (3.0 m) in height and the pedestal 12 ft (3.7 m). The base is 7 ft (2.1 m) long by 6 ft (1.8 m) in width, and the weight is about 70,000 lb (32,000 kg).
12 paź 2020 · The only public monument at the time was Boston’s Beacon Hill Memorial Column, which commemorated the Revolution. Sixty feet high, it was a column of stone and brick topped with a gilded wooden eagle. Pintard sent word to Boston, specifically seeking costs and dimensions; his Columbus monument was to be on much the same scale.
At the very top of the monument stands a 7.2 m (24 ft) tall bronze statue atop a 40 m (131 ft) tall Corinthian column. The statue was sculpted by Rafael Atché and is said to depict Columbus pointing towards the New World with his right hand, while holding a scroll in the left.
