An Garda Síochána is the national police service of Ireland, with approximately 14,000 Garda members, 3,400 Garda staff and 450 Garda Reserve members - a total workforce of almost 18,000. The mission of An Garda Síochána is “Keeping People Safe”.
The Policing Authority is an independent statutory body that was established on 1 January 2016. Our role is to oversee the police services performed by the Garda Síochána throughout Ireland. We also promote public awareness of policing matters, while supporting continuous improvements in policing.
