Some sociologists study why disasters occur, but sociologists interested in collective behavior study another aspect of disasters: how people behave during and after a disaster. 14 wrz 2021 · Collective behavior can be observed in four types of groupings of people: the crowd, the mass, the public, and social movements, although other phenomena, such as fads and rumors, are also considered to be forms of collective behavior.
Smelser’s theory implies that the occurrence of collective behaviour is indicator of imbalance in the system. Smelser was a careful theorist, and he admits that these strains are not uncommon. But crucially he still holds that in principle the system is a harmoniously functioning one.
