CQI’s Q Coffee System is an internationally recognized program for evaluating cup quality based on a standardized system for Arabica coffee using protocols developed by the SCA. A Q Arabica Grader is a highly trained and calibrated coffee taster who evaluates coffee using SCA cupping standards and protocols.
Choose from a variety of pathways to achieve professional certification from both the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI). Professional certification classes typically last 1-3 full days and include accredited exams.
The Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) works to promote a common system for scoring and evaluating specialty coffees through the Q Grader program. To be certified as a Q Grader, you’ll need to pass a six-day exam covering sensory evaluation skills, green coffee grading, and general coffee knowledge.
The SCA Coffee Skills Program consists of one introductory module, Introduction to Coffee, and five specialist modules: Barista, Brewing, Green Coffee, Roasting and Sensory. Each module focuses on a different professional role in the coffee industry.
