Metro Transit, formerly Madison Metro, operates bus services throughout the City of Madison, Wisconsin, United States and several of its suburbs, including Middleton, Fitchburg, Maple Bluff, Shorewood Hills, Sun Prairie, and Verona. [1] System-wide, fixed route ridership was 9,514,620 in 2023. [2]
MetroForward>> includes addressing Metro’s overcapacity and outdated storage facilities, implementing Bus Rapid Transit, and restructuring Metro routes to better serve the region’s residents and employers. Madison is in the process of renovating Metro’s 100-year-old bus storage facility.
The Metro Rapid bus rapid transit system will use the routing through downtown Madison used by most buses today. BRT buses will follow the University Avenue and Johnson Street one-way couplet, upper State Street and the Capitol Square.
