Cushing, city, Payne county, north-central Oklahoma, U.S., near the Cimarron River. A portion of the Sac and Fox Indian Reservation, the area now known as Cushing, was opened to homesteaders in 1891 and settled as a farming community. It was named for Marshall Cushing, private secretary of John.
CUSHING. The town of Cushing is located in Payne County at the intersection of State Highways 33 and 18, sixty-nine miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The area was part of the Sac and Fox Reservation and included in grazing land leased by the Michigan-owned Turkey Track Ranch, with headquarters eleven miles north of the future townsite.
