Yunnan province is located in China’s southwest region and shares borders with Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. It has a population of 45.7 Million (2009) containing 25 of the 56 registered ethnic groups.
Bordered by Tibet to the northwest, Sichuan to the north, and Guizhou and Guangxi to the east, Yunnan covers a total area of around 394,000 square kilometres, making it roughly the same size as Germany. Yunnan also borders Laos and Vietnam to the south, and shares a large border with Myanmar to the southwest.
