4 lut 2019 · A Note on Book Reviews. The American Historical Review tries to review as many historiographical monographs as possible. Of the over 2,200–2,500 books a year that we receive, we usually prove able to review slightly more than one-third. The figure for 2018 was 35.1 percent.
The AHR seeks to review genres of scholarship that make historical knowledge available to the discipline at large and the general public. We invite proposals for these kinds of reviews. All reviews are assigned in consultation with the Board of Editors and Associate Review Editors.

My focus in this article is on book reviews written by American historians and physicists in the American Historical Review, Physical Review, and Science from 1900 until 1940. I show that book reviewers in these journals assessed not only results and methods of authors but also authors themselves.
