Main article: Treasure Trails/Guide/Cryptic clues. This section includes both simple and cryptic clues. Simple clues are clues containing a straightforward message such as "Search the boxes in a house in Lumbridge". Cryptic clues are similar to simple clues, but with increased difficulty.

Treasure Trails is an activity which involves clue scrolls, rarely dropped items dropped by the majority of monsters in RuneScape. Clue scrolls contain clues and riddles for the player to solve to reach the casket and reap the rewards.

The Treasure Trail collection log book is a collection log and tool to help keep track of clue scroll rewards. It also tracks rewards received from the Giant Oyster, from spying penguin agents 001-007 in Penguin Hide and Seek, and from Sandy Clue Scrolls; but not rewards received from magical dice.
