When you use MATCH, there should be a consistency between the value in the match_type argument and the sorting order of the values in the lookup array. If the syntax deviates from the following rules, you will see the #N/A error.

Even an IF function comparing the two says they are the same. However, when I use the EXACT function it says they are not.

If MATCH is unsuccessful in finding a match, it returns the #N/A error value. If match_type is 0 and lookup_value is a text string, you can use the wildcard characters — the question mark ( ? ) and asterisk ( * ) — in the lookup_value argument.
