15 sie 2011 · I thought I’d throw in a sample verbatim that I presented in CPE a few weeks ago. These are presented in class and are a pretty significant part of what we do. After a patient visit we write it up similarly to what you see below, although there are a lot of different ways to do it.
The encounter is traditionally organized into three columns, for CPE studies: (1) Patient-chaplain interaction, verbatim, (2) objective observations of patient and self/chaplain's behavior, and clinical environment and (3) subjective description of chaplain's own thoughts and feelings.
Each student prepares written verbatims to present to the peer group for feedback. A verbatim scripts and evaluates a specific visit. In this account, you describe the nature and extent of the encounter, your assessment of the issues, problems, and the situation.
However when the verbatim is presented and discussed at some length by peers and a supervisor, the chaplain finds words for articulating many of those thoughts that lay just beyond the scope of conscious expression, and can perceive at a deeper intuitive level the psychosocial dynamics and the spiritual issues that emerged in that patient visit.
