The plate carrier as a concept, though, didn't really exist at this time -- the first one that I'm aware of was the Paraclete Special Operations Hard Plate Carrier, which, if I remember correctly, came as part of the kit that the Paraclete Releasable Armor Vest came with. That debuted in 2003ish.
