Architects use millimetres (mm) and metres (m), but not centimetres (cm). The colon ‘:’ in a scale is pronounced ‘to,’ so 1:100 is spoken as ‘one to one hundred.’ While scales like 1:25, 1:30, and 1:250 may appear, it’s standard practice to use 1:20, 1:50, and 1:200 instead.
The SI symbol used to represent centimeters is cm. The centimeter is defined as the base unit of length in the old centimeter - gram - second (CGS) system of units. A centimeter is a metric length measurement unit.
The scale 1 : 20 means that one centimetre on the scale drawing represents 20 cm in real life. The drawn length multiplied by 20 gives the real length.
27 wrz 2020 · Metric Scale 1:500. Using the yellow highlighted 1:500 scale means that when you measure 1 cm on the drawing it is equivalent to 500 cm of the real item to be built. 1:500 is also equivalent to 5 meters for every 1 cm on the drawings, because 100 cm is equal to 1 meter; 500 cm is equal to 5 meters.
An Architect’s scale is used for imperial measurements and allows easy reading of feet and inches. A Metric scale is used for metric measurements and allows for the reading of decimal points. The actual dimension can be determined from a scale drawing using the appropriate scale on a scale ruler.
