There are around fifty pollinator-friendly, flowering, drought-tolerant shrub species in the Ceanothus genus. Most are evergreens, but there are also some deciduous options.

Ceanothus 'Centennial' is a broadleaf evergreen groundcover shrub with green foliage. In spring blue flowers emerge followed by black fruit. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees, beneficial insects and birds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens.
California lilac. This low growing Ceanothus has bright, cobalt-blue flowers and small dark-green, shiny leaves. Spreads quickly to around one foot tall by 6 - 8 feet wide. The flowers are displayed in profusions of small pom-poms colored an intense deep-blue set above small glossy foliage.
Ceanothus 'Centennial' (Centennial Ceanothus) - A low-spreading groundcover growing 6 to 12 inches tall by 4 to 8 feet wide. The tiny, dark green leaves have a glossy surface that gives a polished backdrop to the intensely blue, button-like flower clusters in spring.
