The Cass Scenic Railroad is a well maintained historical gem. We took the 4.5 hour 22 mile roundtrip to Bald Knob. The weather was glorious and we just sat back and enjoyed the ride, while being propelled up the mountain by Shay 2 and Shay 4, two meticulously maintained vintage steam locomotives.
Trips to Cass Scenic Railroad State Park are filled with rich history, unparalleled views and the sights and sounds of an original lumbering town. The park’s 11-mile long heritage railroad and authentic company town are some of the state’s most popular tourist attractions.
Ascend by steam train from the historic village of Cass, on the Greenbrier River, to the second-highest peak in West Virginia at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Authentic coal-fired locomotives carry passengers on two- and 4.5-hour narrated excursions through the highlands and the history of timbering.
