TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) is cash assistance given to families to pay for rent, utilities and other necessities. To qualify for TANF, you must be caring for your child or a child that you are related to. The family must be low income, either due to unemployment, low wages, disability or absence of one parent.
