Photo: Per Eriksson. In 1888, Karin’s father Adolf Bergöö gave them a small house named Little Hyttnäs at Sundborn, just outside Falun in Dalarna. Carl and Karin decorated and furnished this house which was then immortalized by Carl’s paintings of family life unfolding here.

12 lis 2009 · Carl Larsson was a prolific Swedish artist whose paintings of his own home interiors have inspired homeowners like me for over 100 years. Carl and his wife Karin were given a small house by Karin’s father in 1888 in Sundborn, named Lilla Hyttnäs (little furnace). Is this a fairy tale, or what?
Here, Carl and Karin together created the interiors that made their home famous. Karin designed the furniture and textiles, which she embroidered and wove. A studio was fitted up in one of the hallways.
The couple transformed the tiny timbered cottage, which was built in 1837, into one of the world’s best-known artist’s residences. Lilla Hyttnäs has remained in the Larsson family for generations and is now managed by the Carl och Karin Larsson Family association.
The 1960s home has room for both play and work. The pleasant writing corner is a place to sit and study or work. In the children’s room, IKEA optimises the space with bunk beds and desks with drawer units. The youngest family members get their own furniture, such as the reversible ANNA chair.
