4 lut 2023 · This study aimed to investigate the significance of Hill classification to predict esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptomatology, and future prescriptions of proton pump inhibitors in clinical practice.
Three types of hiatus hernia are distinguished. Axial hiatus hernia (synonyms: axial sliding hernia, type I hiatus hernia), in which the esophagogastric junction and sometimes the cardia “slide” in a supradiaphragmatic direction, is the most frequent type, representing more than 90% of cases.

31 maj 2022 · Hiatal herniation, migration of the gastric cardia from the abdomen cephalad into the chest are commonly present in patients with esophageal symptoms in particular gastroesophageal reflux disease. Three of the four hernia types (sliding type 1 and type 2 or 3 paraesophageal) can be diagnosed by upper endoscopy.
It is not clear at which length a hiatal hernia be-comes clinically significant, and since the GEJ is not static, most endoscopists use a 2cm cutoff [6]. Another way to assess the GEJ is by grading the gastroesophageal flap valve (GEFV) using the Hill classification ( " Figs.1–4) [13].
