Reservations are suggested for the handful of camping areas near Salmon and Sardine Lakes as well as Gold Lake. There are also several nice lodges and cabins for those who prefer more comfort. The drive up CA-49 from Nevada City along the Yuba River is beautiful and takes about an hour unless you stop in Downieville or Sierra City to explore.
