Mike Young, 3-time Idaho State Champion for Idaho Falls High School. Mike went on to become an NCAA All-American and World Medalist while wrestling for BYU. In 1970 Mike became an assistant coach for Boise State University where he took over the head coaching position in 1972.
25 maj 2005 · Young, 60, is retiring after serving as wrestling coach, golf coach, physical education teacher, friend to many in the athletic department and unofficial fund-raiser of millions of dollars. His last official function is next week’s Bronco-Vandal golf tournament in New Meadows.
Mike Young is one the most successful coaches in Boise State history. Boise State has won 10 Big Sky Wrestling Championships during his 14 years as Head Coach of the Wrestling program. Mike was also a tremendous high school and college wrestler.
Mike continued to distinguish himself at BYU, winning the WAC Championship in 1963 and 1966. He won the University’s first “The Most Competitive Athlete” award in 1965. He graduated from BYU in 1967, and also received a master’s degree in 1969.
As a BYU wrestler 6-1, 167-pounder fashioned an impressive 125-14-1 career record to become the winningest collegiate wrestler in the history of not only the state of Utah but also the WAC. He helped BYU to 20th-, 12th-, 6th-, and 14th-place NCAA team finishes.

6 lut 2020 · Of the famous McAdams wrestling family of Westfield High School in New Jersey, Russ McAdams was on the BYU wrestling team with his two brothers Mick and Ross. Russ, a two time WAC champion became the cougars first All American with a fourth place finish at the 1967 NCAA wrestling championships.
