29 sie 2024 · This fine-looking pipe-based bike repair stand uses simple and easily obtainable raw materials. The clamp looks a little overbuilt, though I bet you could use one of the PVC clamps from above without much ill effect.
The bottom clamp is fixed and the upper clamp swivels to accommodate variations in shape of bike tubes. I cut off the swivel pads from the locking pliers by cutting the rivets. I cut the bottom pliers arm in a "V" shape to accommodate one length of angle which was then welded in place.
The clamp opens and closes with a large knob on the top. I put a lot of thought into how to make this mechanism as simple as possible. It uses a homemade knob, slightly modified carriage bolt, some washers, a modified t-nut, and a spring. Each component is covered in more detail in later steps.
