23 cze 2002 · I'll agree that 154CM will be better for edge retention, but Buck's 420HC heat treated is exceptional. Buck has the best 420 out there for sure. My Nightawk takes a super sharp edge, and after brutal beatings, it's real easy to sharpen up.

A good blade combines good edge retention, rust resistance and ease of re-sharpening. 420HC is a stainless steel that provides excellent rust resistance, ease of re-sharpening and medium edge retention. 154CM is a custom steels with much higher carbon content, giving it a higher hardness ratings and dramatically higher edge retention.

21 maj 2018 · The primary difference between 154CM and previous martensitic stainless steels appropriate for knives was its high molybdenum content. The molybdenum was added, as described before, for “hot hardness” to allow the use of the steel at higher operating temperatures.

Great steel, used to be considered one of the best until “super steels” like S30V came along and became plentiful. The key to 154CM is leaving the edge a bit toothy. 600 grit is often recommended.
