I have been makeing a short list, including the cullen-psaudio, the bel canto 3, (and the player cd-1 that has similar dac guts), a possible used Wadia or Meridian -- all the usual suspects. After reading a review of the Bryston, I added that to my list (audio advisor asks 1995).
22 sty 2015 · Ultimately, Bryston could not match the quality of a CD-dedicated system. However, the quality of the CD playback is excellent. I respect Bryston for not sacrificing quality for features. Anyone out there using Bryston products they recommend?

My BCD-1 gets about 10 hr/week usage, a low number, and it's approaching its 5-year anniv this summer. So, a breakdown is not a big concern for me, esp as it is a Bryston. My primary source has been a BDP-1/BDA-1 combo. But for large CD box sets (that I don't bother ripping), I still enjoy BCD-1.

The music was clean and transparent, with focused and engaging dynamics. However, I was a bit confused when I realized it did not support SACD format.
