- Migration
An unmistakable bird of coastal waters. Groups of Brown Pelicans fly low over the waves in single file, flapping and gliding in unison. See where the Brown Pelican travels throughout the hemisphere each year.
Brown Pelicans either breed and migrate or are resident all year along the Pacific Coast and Atlantic Coasts of North America and down to northern South America. You can find Brown Pelicans around shallow water environments. They live year-round in estuaries and coastal marine habitats.
Migration. Resident to long-distance migrant. The seasonal movements of Brown Pelicans vary all across their range. Many Atlantic populations disperse northward in the summer after breeding and return southward in autumn, probably to follow concentrations of fish.
