Rate of New Cases and Deaths per 100,000: The rate of new cases of female breast cancer was 129.4 per 100,000 women per year. The death rate was 19.3 per 100,000 women per year. These rates are age-adjusted and based on 2017–2021 cases and 2018–2022 deaths.

Based on the most recent data available, in the United States in 2021, 272,454 new breast cancers were reported in females and in 2022, 42,211 females died from breast cancer.
In the US in 2022, an estimated 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women and 43,250 women will die from the disease (Table 1). In addition, an estimated 51,400 cases of DCIS will be diagnosed among women.
Approximately 1 in 8 women (13%) will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime and 1 in 39 women (3%) will die from breast cancer (Table 2).20 Lifetime risk is an average of risk for all women and accounts for deaths from other causes that may preempt a breast cancer diagnosis.
