Forecasts are of the year-on-year growth for BRC-KPMG Retail Sales H1 2023 and H2 2023 and year-on-year inflation of the BRC-Nielsen Shop Price Index over the same period.
The cost of living crunch has become more acute, with even the cost of basic food goods, as measured by the BRC-Nielsen Shop Price Index, rising by 4.5%. Meanwhile, households face rising costs of housing and bills of almost 20% during Q2 (ONS). The result has been a further drop in consumer confidence, which reached an all-time low in June 2022.
