30 paź 2023 · The hippocampus is an elongated convex structure bulging in the floor and medial wall of the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle. It is about 5 cm long and widest at its anterior extent where it bends toward the medial aspect of the brain.
Hippocampus anatomy describes the physical aspects and properties of the hippocampus, a neural structure in the medial temporal lobe of the brain. It has a distinctive, curved shape that has been likened to the sea-horse monster of Greek mythology and the ram's horns of Amun in Egyptian mythology.
3 dni temu · The hippocampus transfers information from short-term memory to memory-storage regions of the brain, particularly in the cerebral cortex of the temporal lobes. Memory related to motor skills (known as procedural memory) is stored by the cerebellum and basal nuclei.
The hippocampus stretches along the floor of the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle and resembles a curved and elongated gyrus. At its front end, it expands to form a paw-like structure known as the pes-hippocampus.

20 lip 2023 · Structure and Function. Three phases of memory include (1) registration, (2) storage, and (3) retrieval of information. The hippocampus, parahippocampal region of the medial temporal lobe, and the neocortical association have been shown through autopsy and imaging studies to be essential for memory processing.
