A box trap is a type of trap used in the Hunter skill. The box trapping technique is used to catch ferrets, embertailed jerboas and chinchompas. With the required Hunter level and partial completion of the Eagles' Peak quest, the player may set up a box trap.
A year or so back, u/Nintendo_Dringus made this post about a python program they created to map the optimal trap layout for the private red chinchompa hunting grounds. They were kind enough to share the code with me, so I made a version for the gwenith hunter area north of priffddinas!
An x is better because you can always reach all your traps in 1 tick. Allowing you to reset them a bit faster. Exact location matters a bit less just make sure it's next to a chin spawn and kill the chin if it doesn't go into a trap immediately.
Shoot the chins with a bow and arrow until you find the square it respawns on. Then, place the boxes around that square (like a + sign) and then you'll have a higher chance of catching it, since it'll spawn in and most likely start going for the traps. Rinse and repeat. A lot easier to do in the private cave. 2.
Bird house trapping is a Hunter technique that is used to catch birds. With this technique the player sets up bird houses on Fossil Island and fills them with seeds. The player then has to wait around 50 minutes for the bird houses to passively fill with birds.
Players can also find various hunting equipment in crates throughout the village: Bird snare - the south-western crate in Hugor's house. Box trap - the crate adjacent to the bookcases in the north-western house. Butterfly net - the crate in the north-east corner of Lan the Butcher's house.
Box traps are items used in the Hunter skill. Similar to bird snaring, box-trapping involves laying the box and waiting for animals to be trapped. Box-trapping can be started at level 27 Hunter, and requires completion of Eagles' Peak quest, after Nickolaus shows the player how to use one.
