18 lip 2024 · The best strategy for planting a bottle gourd is making a small hill and planting at least 6–7 seeds per hill. When they get established, thin all but the 2–3 healthiest and strongest vines. In this way, you guarantee 2–3 healthy vines and hedge against problems and pests that can stunt growth.

The fruits vary greatly in size and shape and are made into water bottles, dippers, spoons and other utensils, birdhouses, ornaments, lamps, and musical instruments.

Classic type for crafting. Larger, rounded blossom end with a narrow neck and slightly bulbed stem end. Harvest when the smooth, greenish rind turns white or starts to brown. Dry for crafting into durable bottles, birdhouses, etc. Trellis vines for consistent fruit shape. Avg. weight: 10–12 lb.
If you're wondering how to grow bottle gourds specifically, they prefer a long growing season with plenty of heat and sun. In California, this means planting them in late April or early May and keeping them well-watered throughout the summer months.
