Left border – Left ventricle (and some of the left atrium) Superior border – Right and left atrium and the great vessels. Fig 1.

Name the structures forming the right, inferior and left border of the heart. To the right of the apex, a branch of the left coronary artery is faintly visible. What better name than left anterior descending for it!

Plain radiographs are the first step in the imaging evaluation of the heart, lung, and major thoracic vessels. With plain films, the heart margins can be assessed.
