Bobcat Company is an American-based manufacturer of farm and construction equipment. Its American headquarters is in West Fargo, North Dakota, formerly in Gwinner, North Dakota. Its European headquarters moved in 2017 from Waterloo, Belgium, to Dobříš, Czech Republic (where Bobcat operates one of its European manufacturing plants).
For decades, the name “Bobcat” has been synonymous with loaders. After all, we brought the world its first true skid-steer loader in 1960: the M400. Our invention launched the compact equipment industry – which today is an $11.6 billion global enterprise – and made Bobcat the compact industry leader.

Bobcat releases the first production model of the current Skid-Steer loader. The first Skid-Steer loader is invented and first introduced. The new Skid-Steer loader is given the name “Bobcat” to represent toughness, quickness, and agility. Clark Equipment Company purchases the company from Melroe.

Bobcat decided to enter the excavator market in the 80s, and by 1988 the first two models were production-ready. The company was actually the only one to produce excavators in North America for 25 years in a row.
