The head units on 2016 and older vehicles have only 2GB of memory, leading to bugs and crashes when attempting to retrofit, as I found out. The answer in this case is to replace the head unit with a later unit with 4GB of memory.
24 wrz 2024 · it seems there’s already a bug in CarPlay where notifications aren’t being displayed as they come in on the CarPlay page, unless you’re already on the CarPlay screen across a range of BMWs. But the new problem is that everytime I get a notification, that sounds comes through.
The frustrating thing about CarPlay (certainly with stock installs on the LCI/Roadster) is that you cannot use google maps to display directions on the HUD. You also cannot use google maps stand alone outside of CarPlay - if you wanted to view a route as a navigator, you can't do this, you only get a list of written instructions.

24 lip 2021 · BimmerTech resolved this issue after helping to troubleshoot. The problem ended up being the extension cable that goes from the trunk to the MMI box in the cabin. After replacing, the camera worked perfectly.
28 maj 2021 · Occasionally there's a slight high pitched noise that's probably an earthing issue. It is a compromise that will never match full OEM. Wireless android auto drops out very occasionally, I believe the wired version is stable.
