27 sty 2009 · I am having the cold weather oil separator replacement done on my 2002 330i. The shop looked up the kit components and it called for replacing the dipstick guide tube. The tube cost was $350.00. Why would that need replacing. Does the new oil separator and additional pieces not match up with the existing guide tube.

The high failure rate is caused by sludge build-up that can result in oil burning, rough idle and engine fault codes. Although the solution is pretty simple, replacing the valve is labor intensive and can take anywhere from six to nine hours.
I've been consuming around 1qt of oil every 1500-2000 miles with no visible leaks or smoke out the tailpipe so I ordered a new oil separator. I have a 2006 N52 with magnesium valve cover, and the external oil separator buried under the intake manifold near the firewall, near the starter.
