A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night: This does not describe a one-third lessening of light, but one-third of the day and night are plunged into absolute darkness. As Jesus said: the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light ( Matthew 24:29 ).
The silence in heaven and the time of quiet prayer suddenly ends with "peals of thunder... flashes of lightning, and an earthquake" (Revelation 8:5). The visions of tribulations are about to begin. The seven angels prepare to sound their trumpets (Revelation 8:6).
1 mar 2015 · And what we have before us this morning, is, what we might call, John's travel journel. So turn if you will to Revelation 8. This is where we will pick up again with our ongoing study in this amazing book, looking specifically this moring at the first five verses of the chapter. II.
Before we get into the Revelation 8, I want to highlight two things about the sequence of the seal and trumpet judgments. Notice that the 6th seal is the first one that is clearly supernatural in nature. For the first 5, these are brought about by human activity.
In chapter 8, God is judging sin out of answers to His people’s prayers. Those who dwell on the earth have rebelled against God and His Christ. So in chapters 4 and 5 of Revelation, we learn that we should worship God who is about to judge the earth. In Revelation 6, we learn that God is judging the earth through what’s called the seal judgments.
