24 sie 2018 · Probably the most well known of the 8 Bowerbird species found in Australia, the Satin Bowerbirds, specifically the males are notorious for their love of blue things. There is much more to these birds though. The adult male has that striking glossy blue-black plumage, and a violet-blue eye.
The blue objects match the colour of the mature male’s plumage, though, depending on the amount and angle of the light, the plumage can vary from blue to black. The blue objects also match the vivid blue eyes of the females and immature males.
The satin bowerbird (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus) is a bowerbird endemic to eastern Australia. A rare natural intergeneric hybrid between the satin bowerbird and the regent bowerbird is known as Rawnsley's bowerbird.
