I'm late to this party - got my doorbell a month ago, after using my Blink Outdoor cameras successfully for 3 years. I just got hit with the "your free trial has expired." Like others, I had no idea it wouldn't work without a subscription - none of my other Blink cameras required one.
I do have an Android emulator (BlueStacks) and the Blink app installed on my PC, so I can use the app and watch live videos on my PC if I wanted to, the same way it is used on the phone. I use it without subscription. Here are a couple of links that explain subscription vs. no subscription:
