Had to call blink support to get "no subscription" install to completely install (deleted initial account and started a new one). It seemed to record video to the usb stick on motion alerts but replaying them on my phone was more miss than hit.
Problem solved. If you want better quality, battery operated, with free cloud storage, get Wyze outdoor cameras. And before you say, your parents didn't have to pay for a subscription, even the info on Amazon when you purchase them clearly states: Cloud Storage: Blink Subscription Plan.
