25 mar 2024 · The aims of this systematic review were to assess the documented long-term survival rates of the metal-on-metal BIRMINGHAM HIP Resurfacing System at a follow-up of at least 10 years and to analyze the functional outcomes and cause of failures.
Complications such as heart attack, stroke or death can occur after hip replacement as with other forms of major surgery. These complications are rare and the anaesthetist will not allow the operation to proceed if it is felt that the risks are significantly higher than normal.

18 maj 2024 · Survivorship free of aseptic revision was 97.4% and survivorship free of any revision was 96.0% at 15 years. Revisions included 3 periprosthetic joint infections, 2 for elevated metal ions and symptomatic pseudotumor, 2 for aseptic femoral loosening, and 1 for unexplained pain.

We present our current analysis and tests on a series of different BHR-retrieved prostheses after premature failure.

The purpose of this study is to report on the midterm outcomes of BHR in patients 55 years and younger, and specifically to examine the risk factors for aseptic failure, all-cause revision, and complications in this patient population.
