25 mar 2024 · Results: A total of 11 studies were identified, encompassing 3,129 cases. Across the 9 studies that had reported a mean follow-up, the mean follow-up was 11.7 years (range, 9.55 to 13.7 years). We found a pooled 10-year survival rate of 95.5% (95% confidence interval, 93.4% to 97.1%).
18 maj 2024 · Survivorship free of aseptic revision was 97.4% and survivorship free of any revision was 96.0% at 15 years. Revisions included 3 periprosthetic joint infections, 2 for elevated metal ions and symptomatic pseudotumor, 2 for aseptic femoral loosening, and 1 for unexplained pain.

The Birmingham hip replacement may have a very low failure rate at 8 years, approximately 1%. More recent data suggests that a slightly higher early failure rate may be present. It is thought that once the first 1-2 years have passed the risk of failure becomes very low.
