6 mar 2023 · The biosphere is where living organisms are found on, above, and below the Earth’s surface. It is thus one large ecosystem characterized by biotic (living things), abiotic (non-living) factors, and energy working together as a single unit.
For example, living things inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide (CO 2) from the atmosphere. Then, plants pull CO 2 during photosynthesis to build their structure (mostly glucose). The biosphere constantly interacts with Earth’s spheres. For example, living things pull water from the soil and air. And oceans soak up carbon from the air.
12 cze 2022 · Biosphere refers to the areas or the regions of the Earth possessing life. It is one of the distinguishing features of the Earth from the other planets. The Earth consists of four spheres, namely (1) biosphere, (2) atmosphere, (3) lithosphere (geosphere), and (4) hydrosphere.
Earth's biosphere is divided into several biomes, inhabited by fairly similar flora and fauna. On land, biomes are separated primarily by latitude. Terrestrial biomes lying within the Arctic and Antarctic Circles are relatively barren of plant and animal life. In contrast, most of the more populous biomes lie near the equator.
27 lis 2024 · The biosphere supports between 3 and 30 million species of plants, animals, fungi, single-celled prokaryotes such as bacteria, and single-celled eukaryotes such as protozoans (Figure 1). Of this total, only about 1.4 million species have been named so far, and fewer than 1 percent have been studied for their ecological relationships and their ...
Through the process of evolution, species diversify to fill the available opportunities for existence, creating an ever changing set of plants and animals found in the Earth’s biomes from tundra to rainforests. Coral reef in Papua New Guinea.
