24 lip 2024 · I had a fabric heat shield wrapped around the starter since it is so close to the 2" Hooker headers. A few months ago I started having issues with the starter not turning over after a short run to the store.
27 lip 2024 · Posters in my thread suggested getting rid of the heat blanket and go to a heat shield claiming the blanket holds the heat in as BLM suggested. I have a heat shield on order now from Summit but don't know if it will solve it or not.
15 lip 2020 · If you suffer from heat soak in your starter, there are a few simple things you can do. Heat soak is exactly what I am running into with the temps in my car. I am currently using a mini high torque starter on my 454 Big Block Chevy and stock exhaust manifolds.
Well Tom, I have owned lots of 65 Chevys with small and big block engines (with headers) and never had a "heat soak" problem with the starter. 1. Make sure the timing is not set too advanced. 2. Make sure the cables to the starter are big enough and fully connected to the battery. 3. Make sure you use a quality Delco (new or reman) starter.
7 maj 2006 · Seems people have addressed this thru heat blankets, shields, mini-starters, timing, etc. The blankets (IMO) could actually keep heat from dissipating and the shield makes more sense, although some have stated they're tough to install.
28 kwi 2016 · I recently replaced the larger flex plate on my SBC and found that it was too close to the reduction starter and had to shim the starter pinion away. The old flex plate was fine so the replacements seem to be hit and miss with getting a good one.
