If you were to compare the quality to a professionally pre recorded tape, you will notice it's not as good. The only blank tapes left are the warehouses full of unsold stock. There's hundreds of thousands if not millions left.

WalMart, Costco, etc. use Capture/YesVideo for VHS to digital. That should help you find reviews about them. They don't explain their process so they may just be using a VHS/DVD combo unit to record from VHS onto DVD.
