The PS3 does not have a built in scaler like the xbox 360 does and very few ps3 games run at 1080p. Almost always 720p/1080i. I would reccomend a quality 720p plasma or a modern 1080p/4k tv that has a really good built in scaler. I would check rtings.com for current tvs and scaler ratings.

4k OLED TV is an excellent choice for PS3. Even most PS2 games look very nice on bc model, if they don't have a lot of fine details. I think CRT might make those rough edges less visible, but I don't think many PS3 games were made with CRT in mind. (All that being said, the 3D is sweet too)
Best tv’s/monitors for ps3 specifically. Basically, you know how for older consoles like, ps2 and under CRTs are the best, and there’s certain CRTs that really stand out, I.E PVM/BVM.
