Besides a SandForce SSD working well without TRIM, the SATA BUS in the PS3 is more than enough for a SSD to work. Peak, maximum throughput is not the most important feature of SSD. Their quick, nearly-instant access times are one of their best features.

Compared to small HDDs, SSDs are easier to find and cheaper for the Storage amount up to the terabyte. SSDs resist physical damage better and can be moved during operation without problem.
