SSDs are capable of SATA-III 6G, but downwards compatible to the PS3's SATA-I bus, and they don't have to spin up, nor do they have to move a reading head around. Thus seeking files is faster, and the drives are silent of course.

The best you can go with is the 870 EVO from Samsung. It is the best (affordable, though not cheap) SSD when it comes to compatibility with the PS3 system as well as durability. I use it since I got my super slim and it runs like a dream :) Keep in mind that (apparently) there is no day/night difference in speed compared to an HDD.
