Pokémon Trainer Club account is one of two account systems that parents or guardians can use to allow their child to play the popular mobile game Pokémon GO. To grant a child access to Pokémon GO, first create a Pokémon Trainer Club account for yourself (if you don’t already have one) and log in.
If your child logs into Pokémon GO using Niantic Kids, you can opt into enabling social features such as Friends, Gifting, Trading, and sponsored PokéStops for your child in the Niantic Kids Parent Portal. You can also revoke your child’s access to these features at any time.
Trainers logging into Pokémon GO for the first time and who are using a child account are able to do so by connecting their Pokémon Trainer Club (PTC) child account to Pokémon GO. Make sure your parent or guardian is nearby and follow these steps to connect your PTC account to Pokémon GO: Tap Pokémon Trainer Club. Log into your PTC account.
My two kids got a Pokemon Go account each. Normal accounts, not kids. They play on their Ipad at home. It was mostly because my son got some codes he could redeem in game so we wanted him to be able to use them. When our daughter saw that, she wanted to play too.
My kids have PTC child accounts and at first they were very restricted (ie couldn’t trade Pokémon) but that’s fixed. I think the only things they are limited is like buying tickets in the events menu (like the safari zones etc) as well as linking accounts to google etc.
Pokemon GO also supports another kid friendly login method called the Pokémon Trainer Club, an offering from The Pokemon Company which allows parents to register their child’s account and keep their child’s personal information secure.
