For avatars : If I want a very simple toon shader and nothing else, I use shaders like lilToon. If I just want a shader that looks "normal", I use the standard Unity shader. If I want fancy stuff, Poiyomi. For worlds : Standard Unity shader, or the Autodesk shader if I have a Roughtness map.

Drone controls are far better in VRC Lens. You get picture profiles, bokeh shape, and if you change some of the scripting around, anamorphic bokeh as well. I just did up a modified cginc script for my team at furality and we've got that stuff all working now. It's very powerful and very useful.
Avatar models must have their animation type set to Humanoid (default is Generic) in the Rig section of the model import settings in Unity. Most models on DeviantArt are in XNALara formats (.xps, .mesh, or .mesh.ascii).
